REPORT ON 3RD NATIONAL SCRABBLE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN HELD ON 28TH & 29TH DEC 02 AT BANGALORE

63(Sixty three) Children, shortlisted in City-specific tourneys held at Madras, Hyderabad, Bombay, Bangalore, Mysore & Calcutta participated in the event. For the 28th Dec, they were divided into groups of 20 each (last group 23). They played 4(four) games.
For the 29th Dec, they were regrouped (based on their performance on the 28th ) into A,B and C groups. They played 5(five) games. Rankings were awarded in the descending order from A to C groups. While Master Shashank Kumar (9th standared -OLPS-Bombay) bagged the 1st Rank winning all the 9(nine) games, the find of the Tourney was Sarayu Satish (4Th standared - St. Gregorios, Bombay). Both of them can await some surprise gifts from Zygo Scrabble Cluds . Shashank Kumar is upgraded to seniors circuit and will not compete again in any Children's event in India.
Impressive debut performance by Master Abhimanya Das (St. Thomas Boys - Kolkata), Master Rohit Gupta, Master P.R. Sriram and Gaurav Joshi (Lions Seva Niketan- Mysore), Nayan John Pinto (4th standard- St. Anthony's Boys-Bangalore, Kaushik, K.S.(3rd standard -St. Andrews Hyd) and Sanjana Muddappa(St. Joseph Central-Mysore). Zygo Clubs will go the extra mile to groom them for the next Nationals for children.
The high light of the event was the participation by three 2nd standard Children -all girls-Karishma Rao (St. Joseph state-Mysore), Sritha (Delhi Public School-Bangalore) and Manishi Tolia (Pralt Memorial-Calcutta).
Master Shyam Sunder (7th standard -Bala Vidya Mandir, Madras), Master P. Ram Kumar (8th standred- St. Andrews , Hyderabad) and Mrs. Rao from Mysore assisted the Children in Ranking and Swiss Pairing.
Mr. Mohd Ali Savanoor of Hubli, the Chief Arbiter of the event , gave away the prizes to the Children. The 4th National Championship for School Children will be held from 26th to 28th Dec 03 (3 day event) at Hyderabad.
