RANKINGS
OF
7TH NATIONAL WORD FEST FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
Zygo Scrabble Clubs conducted the event from
27th Dec, 06 to 30th Dec, 06 at St. Partick’s High School,
Secunderabad – A.P.
Children were grouped into Grade – I ( up
to and including 6th std) and Grade – II (from 7th std to
10th std).
Children tested and enjoyed themselves in
Scrabble, Spell Check, Creative Writing, Fun Poetry, Unjumble
and Public Speaking. The points garnered in the different
streams were aggregated and Rankings were awarded in the descending
order.
An award was instituted in memory of K. CHANAKYA,
a former Schools’National Champion. The performance of the
children in Grade I (upto 6th std) was a revelation and also
a motivation to spread this format to other cities.
K. Sherya (3rd std ) of Pallavi Model School,
Sec’bad bagged a perfect ten in Public speaking. Vasist Anand
(3rd std) of the same school made the only nine timer in Scrabble
– CORD LESS – notching 149 points for that single move. Nishitha
(5th std) of Andhra Mahila Sabha Obul Reddy Public School,
Hyd’bad clocked the maximum points in Language Appreciation(LA).
Srikar Raghavan (6th std) of Kendriya Vidyalaya,
Mysore won all the seven games in Scrabble and clocked the
maximum aggregate of 44.26 points and got the 1st Rank. He
also bagged the Chanakya Award for the best conduct and a
Deluxe Scrabble set from USA.
Faraaz Ahmed and Sabarritha of Sri Sarada
Secondary School, Chennai bagged the 1st and 2nd Ranks in
Grade – II.
Mr. Abhimanyu Acharya of India.com called
the words for Spell Check and evaluated the children in Public
Speaking.
Mr. Cornelius of Hexaware Technologies Ltd,
presently placed in London, UK, made it in time to be with
the children and gave away the prizes.
The 8th National Word Fest for School Children
will be held on the same dates in 2007 – from 27th Dec, 07
to 30th Dec, 07 at Chennai, Tamilnadu.
