1st NATIONALS
Was held for School Children at Secunderabad. City - specific
Tourneys were held at Mysore (20th & 21st Jan, 2001),
Chennai (26th Jan) and Hyderabad (4th Feb) to short list children
to be invited for the Nationals.
The 1st National Scrabble Championship
for School Children was held on 17th & 18th . May, 2001
at Secunderabad (Andra Pradesh), A remarkable feature of the
event was the triumph of the underdog over the fancied rivals.
Ms ANUTHAMA SHEELA CHUNKATH (Abacus, Chennai),
the hot favorite to secure the 1st rank was pipped at the
post by P. ANAND (Padma Seshadri, Nungamlakkam, Chennai) -
in the last game (12th). Master P. Anand's win was all the
more commendable - he had learnt the game in a Clinic conducted
in his School by the local Zygo Club in the third week of
Jan, 2001.
Top 5(Ten) Rankers of the event were
invited to participate in the 3rd Nationals for the Seniors
held on 19th & 20th May, 2001 at Secunderabad. Ms . ANUTHAMA
gave blushes to many adults and secured the 9th..Rank.
