REPORT AND RANKINGS OF 8TH NATIONAL WORD FEST FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
Zygo Scrabble Clubs invited 30 children for the Word Fest held from 27th Dec, 07 to 30th Dec, 07 at Hotel Royal Regency, Chennai.16 Children played in Group II (7std to 10std) and 14 children played in Group I (upto 6std). Children from Chennai, Trichy, Bangalore, Mysore, Hyderabad & Vizag participated.
Srikar Raghavan (7th std Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mysore) won all Games in Scrabble and also fared well in the language tests and got the first rank. Nishita (7th Std, Obul Reddy Andhra Mahila Sabha, Hyderabad) got the second rank. Srikar also bagged the WORD ONE AWARD for logging the maximum points in the language tests.
Sharanya (7th std. St. Josephs Central, Mysore) polled the maximum votes for THE WINNING SMILE. Saravanan (8th std, Sri Sarada, Chennai) bagged the EUPHONY AWARD for the best speaker. The most exciting event of the FEST, SPELTZ, was held on the last day. Nishita of Hyderbad survived the minefield of SPELLING BUZZ and got the SPELTZ AWARD.
Nikhil Ravishankar (5th std, Mysore) logged the maximum points and the fist rank in Grade I. Easha (5th std, Future Kids, Hyderabad) got the WORD ONE AWARD for faring extremely well in the language tests. Easha got the second rank. Rahul Rajpal (of Mysore) polled the maximum votes for the WINNING SMILE. Malvika (5th std, Balavidyamandir, Adyar, Chennai) got the EUPHONY AWARD for the best speaker
Easha of Hyderabad got the SPELTZ AWARD. The CHANAKYA AWARD, instituted in memory of late K. Chanakya, a National Champion in the school section, is given for SPORTSMANSHIP for a player from among all the participants in the FEST. Rahul Rajpal (Mysore) got the CHANAKYA AWARD and also A DELUXE SCRABBLE SET from USA.
Ms. Shubha (Ramchandra Medical School), P. Ramkumar (Madras IIT), respective city champions in school section in Chennai and Hyderabad and Mrs. Kavitha Prakash of Zygo Scrabble Club, Mysore conducted the FEST.
Hotel Royal Regency dished out interesting menu. The children and parents enjoyed the fare. The salads are still singing in their mouths. We are thankful to Mr. Girish Memen, Director Sales, Royal Regency.

Mr. N. Cornelius of Hexaware Technologies Ltd gave away the prizes.
The 9th NATIONAL WORD FEST for School Children will be held from 27th Dec, 08 to 30th Dec, 08 at Mysore, Karnataka.
